Family Sponsorship in the UAE: Eligibility and Salary Requirements

Who Can Sponsor Family in the UAE?

In the UAE, there are specifications for family sponsorship, for residents both men, and women. For them to be able to sponsor family reunion, they must comply to the employment category, assigned salary and size of accommodation which are fixed requirements by the UAE government.


Salary Requirements for Male Sponsors

Dubai’s expatriates have the option to sponsor their family but they need to meet basic qualification requirements.

-AED 4000 per month salary is mandatory if accommodation is not provided.

  • If accommodation is provided by the company , then a threshold of AED 3000 has to be met.

Meeting the above salary means sponsoring family in UAE will not be an issue as they will be able to support it adequately.


Salary Requirements for Female Sponsors

As a rule, female sponsors are usually required to earn a significantly higher income than males, which is consistent with the extra guarantees required by the authorities: Note: those from the UAE look for vacancies in internal companies only, to cut costs (rent, food, transport, etc.) to the minimum.

A salary of at least AED 10,000 per month, excluding accommodation allowance.

A salary of at least AED 8,000 per month, including accommodation.


Besides the salary requirements, female sponsors may also have to be in the teaching, engineering or health care occupations. But this could vary with the specifics and it would be wise to talk to UAE visa offices or visa agencies for further details.

Documents Needed for Family Sponsorship

To sponsor family members, the following documents are generally required:

  • Application form from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA).

  • Sponsor’s employment contract as proof of employment and salary.

  • Sponsor’s tenancy agreement or proof of property ownership in the UAE.

  • Recent utility bill.

  • Attested marriage certificate for sponsoring a spouse.

  • Attested birth certificates for sponsoring children.

  • Passport copies and photos of the family members being sponsored.


Process of Sponsoring Family Members

The process of sponsoring your family in the UAE involves several steps:

  1. Ensure Eligibility: Confirm that your salary and employment meet the criteria for sponsorship.

  2. Gather Necessary Documents: Collect all required documents, ensuring they are attested as needed.

  3. Apply for Entry Permit: Apply for an entry permit which allows your family to enter the UAE.

  4. Status Adjustment: Once your family arrives in the UAE, adjust their status to "resident" from "visitor."

  5. Medical Fitness Test and Emirates ID Registration: Family members above 18 must undergo a medical fitness test and apply for an Emirates ID.

  6. Visa Stamping: Finally, get the residence visa stamped on their passports.
